Two million window stickers, fresher listings, and NHTSA safety data

Hey there! We've got a big one this week. Two projects we've been heads down on for many months have now fully crossed the finish line, and we're very excited to finally share where things landed.

Window Sticker Verified hits 2 million listings

Remember back in September when we introduced Window Sticker Verified? At the time, we said very, very few listings would carry the badge to start, and that we'd be rapidly expanding coverage over the following months. We've been quietly grinding on that work ever since.

As of this week, just under 40% of all active listings on Visor are Window Sticker Verified - that's over 2 million listings with a build spec we've cross-referenced against the actual factory window sticker. This is easily the biggest accuracy milestone we've hit to date, and the number is only going up from here.

A brand new home for our listings data

Part of the reason this has taken so long is that in order to get here, we needed to completely rebuild the underlying system that ingests and stores every listing on the site. We're happy to report that that move is now fully done, and a few nice things come with it:

  • Listings update way more often than before. One of the most frustrating things about car shopping online is clicking through to a dealer's site only to find out the car is already gone. This happens a whole lot less now, and we'll keep tightening it.
  • The site should feel noticeably faster overall. Searches, filters, and the listing page are all reading from the new setup, and you should feel it.

NHTSA safety data, right on the listing page

Ever find a car you love, then head over to NHTSA.gov to go down a rabbit hole of recalls and owner complaints? We just baked that rabbit hole right into the listing detail page.

On every listing, you'll now find a new NHTSA Safety Data section with four tabs:

  • Recalls - with the recall ID, date, how many vehicles were affected, and every associated document NHTSA has on file.
  • Complaints - we group owner-reported issues into clear themes (e.g. "unintended vehicle movement," "sunroof shattering," "braking system failure") so you can see patterns at a glance instead of reading through hundreds of individual reports.
  • Service Bulletins - what the manufacturer has been quietly telling dealers about.
  • Investigations - active NHTSA investigations, when applicable.

Each tab also has a monthly trend chart up top, so you can get a feel for when issues started showing up vs. when they tapered off.

What's next

  • More accuracy. Window Sticker Verified coverage keeps climbing, and we have some ideas to make the badge mean even more than it already does.
  • Now that the new data setup is fully in place, there are some fun things we can start building on top of it.
